- stuff to read before bed
- audiobooks/podcasts to fall asleep to/keep me company when I wake up in the middle of the night
- the weather app
- checking how badly the Twins lost last night
- going to the gym (needs an app) (not that I've had time to go to the gym yet, but knowing that I couldn't -- without trying to get the silent young people behind the desk to help me anyway -- still made me sad)
- reading my DW circle! it's so busy lately with
3weeks4dreamwidth hooray, but I feel so out of touch! - podcasts to keep me company while I brush my teeth, empty the dishwasher, make tea
- very easy game to play as a like a fidget toy
- messaging the group chat that provides most of my social life these days
- checking my e-mail
- looking up a thing
- taking a picture of a silly thing for social media
- social media
- looking up another thing
- podcasts to keep me company
- messaging the people in my house about tea etc.
- telling the time
- reading that tab I had open
- adding something to the shopping list
- planning when to leave the house to get the bus to transgym
- checking I had booked for transgym
- writing an e-mail
- social media
- texting the neighbor about walking Teddy
- podcasts
- two-factor authentication (luckily I could opt for an e-mail to be sent to me instead)
I'm so tired.

Date: 2026-04-27 04:28 pm (UTC)It doesn't turn on, it doesn't give any indication that it's charging when you plug it in... And it's been the same since yesterday evening.

Date: 2026-04-27 04:34 pm (UTC)Either it will or D has asked his friend-whose-good-at-recommending-refurbished-phones for a recommendation.
And I'm lucky I can afford it in money, but I really can't afford it in time/energy/waiting for it to get here/then having to set it up/etc....

Date: 2026-04-27 04:33 pm (UTC)Yeah, I was thinking this morning that I'd be fine, that I didn't even have a smartphone until relatively late (like, one of the later models of BlackBerry).
But of course, before that, I had a separate mp3 player, and the bus information wasn't on an app, and so on and so on.

Date: 2026-04-27 05:38 pm (UTC)Things being an app now is a bugbear of mine as I'd rather use a webpage and my proper desktop computer setup most of the time. I'm complaining whenever I encounter this, on principle.
I hope you can quickly find a replacement phone that works and lets you do the things again.

Date: 2026-04-27 05:45 pm (UTC)Not Everyone has or likes smartphones damnit
Date: 2026-04-27 06:09 pm (UTC)I can and do use a smartphone but I don't like using it for much other than specific kinds of reading (where I have full control of text display, colours, fonts, spacings, etc) and short typing. I'd much rather use my desktop with a full-size keyboard, ergo mouse, 2 screens and better postural sitting position in my ergo chair... I certainly don't want to spend 5+ mins on it tapping around some app which is spying on my metadata either *eyeroll* and I shouldn't have to run a desktop browser in "faking phone" mode, cos I should be able to use A Web system (which should be accessible cos Public Sector web regs UK, ADA in the USA altho Trump delayed a new change, European Accessibililty Act UK)...
I struggled with one of those ID verify things where I couldn't hold my phone out far enough in front of me to get my face into the oval. My arm wasn't long enough and I couldn't hold AND press a screen button at the same time. I ended up putting phone face up on desk and holding my face over it which looked weird (but did work).
A friend of mine, a former A&E doctor, technically competent etc doesn't use a smartphone. She has multiple sclerosis and can't operate touch screens. So she does ALL her computing on a Macbook laptop and she has an oldschool brickphone for emergency phonecalls and SMSes. She also has great difficulty with app-only crap and is even better at fierce shredding of orgs that don't provide a web interface.
