Oh. No.

This is double-plus ungood. I hope it sorts itself out soon.

Friends who have FairPhones rave about them, but I don't know how good they would be for you.

Amazing how much we use our technological marvels until we don't have them to use. Smartphones are really just so convenient at times.

Maddening isn't it! I'm guessing you've tried the hard reboot, restore factory settings jibble. I had to factory reset a 10/11yr old smartphone I use as a bedside reading phone separate to my usual smartphone cos it got into a reboot loop. Was a bit of a fight to get that back. I also still have a separate MP3 player and will probably try to replace it when it dies cos I do like it being separate.

Things being an app now is a bugbear of mine as I'd rather use a webpage and my proper desktop computer setup most of the time. I'm complaining whenever I encounter this, on principle.

I hope you can quickly find a replacement phone that works and lets you do the things again.

I complain about apps only things, too. I purposefully don't use my phone for anything but texts and voice calls. No data, no internet, no location tracking. I've explained to one person that their in person event depending on an app was excluding people like (or different from ) me.

Not Everyone has or likes smartphones damnit

I hear you!

I can and do use a smartphone but I don't like using it for much other than specific kinds of reading (where I have full control of text display, colours, fonts, spacings, etc) and short typing. I'd much rather use my desktop with a full-size keyboard, ergo mouse, 2 screens and better postural sitting position in my ergo chair... I certainly don't want to spend 5+ mins on it tapping around some app which is spying on my metadata either *eyeroll* and I shouldn't have to run a desktop browser in "faking phone" mode, cos I should be able to use A Web system (which should be accessible cos Public Sector web regs UK, ADA in the USA altho Trump delayed a new change, European Accessibililty Act UK)...

I struggled with one of those ID verify things where I couldn't hold my phone out far enough in front of me to get my face into the oval. My arm wasn't long enough and I couldn't hold AND press a screen button at the same time. I ended up putting phone face up on desk and holding my face over it which looked weird (but did work).

A friend of mine, a former A&E doctor, technically competent etc doesn't use a smartphone. She has multiple sclerosis and can't operate touch screens. So she does ALL her computing on a Macbook laptop and she has an oldschool brickphone for emergency phonecalls and SMSes. She also has great difficulty with app-only crap and is even better at fierce shredding of orgs that don't provide a web interface.

I’m sorry to hear that:-( It’s really tough when something you depend on craps out. I hope that, if needed, the plans with D to find a good affordable replacement go quickly and relatively-easily.
