A year and a bit ago, we acquired a weight bench (and the associated barbells, dumbbells and weights) from a transgym acquaintance. His partner was delighted to get it out of their loft and I was delighted to have it during the dark winter months when my ankle still wasn't up to walking to and from -- not if I wanted to actually do anything at the gym once I got there!

It served me well but isn't making good use of the space in my computer room now that it's easier for me to go to the gym. So today I passed it on to another acquaintance from transgym. He's so excited to have it and I'm so excited to have it out of my room! The circle of life.

I'm excited generally to be dealing with things that have been cluttering up the place. [personal profile] angelofthenorth said she'll take the stand mixer that we've never made enough use of.

(I know this sounds horribly middle-class of me, to be so burdened by possessions...and I am, but in my defense both of these were things I got from others, for no money.)

D and I walked Teddy this afternoon. Wintery mix overnight got us our first ice and/or snow this winter, a little of which has now re-frozen into black ice. With hiking shoes and a little of what my dad calls "duck walk" (apparently here it's called "penguin walk"!), D and I were fine. But Sylvia was so grateful that we showed up to walk the dog at all today. Which gave me the rare opportunity to be like "Don't worry ma'am, I'm from Minnesota."

I misread that as [personal profile] angelofthenorth has been cluttering up the place... And was about to agree with you when I went back and re-read it!

At least the objects themselves can go on to someone that will use them. That's very important for the objects to feel loved.

I love being able to cycle things round. It is a genuine problem where stuff is TooCheap and people can end up acquiring too much stuff (bought new, 2nd hand, given, dumped-with etc) so being able to rehome STUFF to a loving home is great. I am hoping to help mum declutter more sometime this month for her house move. I remember a fairly basic tandem one of the Brum bisexuals gave us, Kim fixed it up but I just couldn't manage it so it took up space in our already crammed front-room. Then my blind friend Sarah was looking for a tandem for her and her then-sighted-partner to ride so we got to give it away to them with a "pass it on" request as their use was "till we can afford a better one for us".

And the idea that stuff doesn't have to have a short life in the bin after its usefulness but can be rehomed to multiple people for as long as they need, then pass it on. I love that pass-it-on cultures are more overtly talked about. I wish people like my sister understood this rather than binning perfectly good stuff. My mum grannie-cycles stuff for sister tho and my mum is good at rehoming stuff.

Love also the Minneostan to the rescue of our useless UK snow uselessness.

Hey, that's great that a thing that is no longer sparking joy for you is now sparking joy for someone else!

(Perhaps I've been spending too long dealing with idiot online activists, but I'm really sick of the way society attempts to suggest that you're not allowed to be anything but grateful if you have a tiny smidgen of privilege. People of all classes are allowed to have feelings! Even good things can be too much! And yes, possessions can be a burden if having them impedes your life in some way! Someone else's broken leg does not mean your sprained ankle doesn't hurt or isn't deserving of treatment!)
