D and I were walking home from an errand when we ran into Pickle, a little French bulldog, and her human (whose name of course I have no idea of). We were near one of our old dog-walking destinations, and she recognized D and I right away -- she called out "where's your dog?"

We stopped and chatted, shared the sad news about Gary, and she was really sweet about how you alway miss them and them and the company they provide. She said her mum's birthday is soon -- or has just been, recently? -- "and even though she's been gone six years I still miss her."

It was really nice to run in to her, and I'm impressed that she recognized us without the dog; I don't know that I'd recognize her without Pickle!

I mostly see people walking by, but assume they have a dog. My house is just elevated enough that I see most folks from the waist up when I'm sitting at the computer. It feels odd that I don't recognize more of them.

My neighbors just got a puppy from a rescue and I saw them today from my kitchen window. I immediately texted "New Puppy!!"

Oh, how nice. Both to have someone recognize you, and to have someone that you can talk to about things like anniversaries of people (or dogs) not being there any more.

passing in May, MyGuy has been taking me for many walks around the neighborhood, following in a decade of her paw prints.

It's given me the chance to meet many dog people who've asked about Bella. We share our memories and they kvell about their current dogs and fondly recall former ones and it's nice to belong to the global community of human-dog-lovers.
