The Residence

We finally managed to watch the first episode of The Residence tonight.

Weird to be watching TV again, it's been a while (I think Man on the Inside was the last show for me?).

I enjoyed it, but one episode tonight was enough -- maybe just because we started at a time that meant the first episode finished after 9pm, which I feel like is my cutoff point for functionality, maybe because in combining The West Wing and a Benoit Blanc movie, it went with the speed of dialogue from Aaron Sorkin and the jump cuts from Rian Johnson. I felt exhausted by the amount of information and potential clues that had been poured in to my head by the end of one episode, and I'm sure I missed others (and this was with the audio description).

Also it feels weird to see Al Franken doing a reprise of his badass Senator persona.

I did enjoy it. Maybe I'm just tired.

Sounds interesting. I recently watched Man on the Inside. Maybe the first time I appreciated Ted Danson as an actor.

I loved him in The Good Place, which is a very different role in some ways but is also "thoughtful/funny old dude" and I just love watching him do that.

I haven't watched any episodes of The Good Place. Lots of memes and a few clips, though.

It is my favorite TV show ever, and I don't know if that's more or less a big deal because I don't watch a lot of TV. :)

It's so weird seeing Al Franken playing Al Franken. In 50 years, people won't believe that person's life arc.

I did enjoy The Residence, but not for its complex web of clues, more for the recognition of the importance of "downstairs" work and how hard those folks must control the urge to constantly roll their eyes with dismay at the nonsense coming out of the "upstairs" people.

Yeah I am enjoying the "downstairs" aspect; I also liked that in Veep and its British counterparts...and indeed The West Wing at times.

My partner had it on and I sat down not knowing what she was watching, but then quickly got into it.

That's how I got in to Brooklyn 99, heh. Fun when that works out.
