Queer quiz

I've made it to queer club three months in a row now! D was able to come along this time and I'm so glad he found it as enjoyable and friendly as I do and as I hoped he would.

This time we did a pub-style quiz (USians call this "trivia"). There was a page of lesser-known pride flags we had to identify (demisexual, polysexual, bear...it was my first time seeing a pup flag but I guessed right away what it was!) which also included the flag of the Netherlands as a joke at the end (I think it's way funnier that three separate people asked if that was the flag of France -- I said I know that's the Netherlands but I only know this because of Eurovision, which may be the gayest way to learn flags).

Our table came in joint second, despite being so abominable at the music round. Even when most of the artists and song titles were named at the end they didn't mean anything to me. Except one: I guessed Indigo Girls after ten seconds of what turned out to be "Constant Craving" by kd lang! Just shows how bad I was at being a lesbian I was in the 90s!

Well, they're oriented differently, and you can thank Napoleon for the vast number of three-color bar flags out there.

I do find it quite odd that the Belgian flag has the same colours as the German one rather than the French/Dutch, given that the German-speaking community there is tiny compared to Flanders & Wallonia.

Although having just nerd-sniped myself with that, it turns out that they are not the German colours, they are the Duchy of Brabant colours, and the yellow on the Belgian flag is in fact slightly paler than the gold on the German flag. And apparently the flag of Flanders is a black lion with a red tongue on a yellow background, and Wallonia is a red cock on a yellow background.

Yeah I guess to some extent it turns out there's just only so many bright colors that tend to end up on flags and sometimes it's just a coincidence. :)

The pup flag was flying outside that "oldest gay bar" in Brussels. I think there's a photo in our holiday snaps of it above my head.

I remember seeing a flag but with the light the way it was, I couldn't say which flag it was beyond "something with colors in it" :)

Oooh I like that acronym.

Well it had the background colors/stripes I just about recognized from the leather flag, and it had a bone in the middle, so it wasn't too much of a guess. :)
