[219/365] mowing the lawn
Aug. 7th, 2023 08:30 pmBig dad energy again: I finished work and was like "It hasn't rained all day so I should really mow the lawn."
We had the wettest July ever, I guess. It has certainly felt like it's rained every day forever.
So the lawn I mowed almost every weekend in May and June is now up to Gary's ears (we don't have a monoculture lawn but when things he can't see are poking him in the face when he tromps around his backyard...I know it's time for me to mow).
Grass so long is difficult for our manual lawn mower. The grass is still very wet too of course, which makes it heavy... Who needs the gym when I've got this! The grass shears we normally have to tidy up the edges had to be used extensively just to deal with the worst of it so that I could mow at all -- so I got some sideways-arm-movement (what is that, delts, pecs, something like that?).
Normally I empty the grass-collector attached to the mower twice when I mow the lawn. When it was kinda dry, i did it only once. Today? Five times.

Date: 2023-08-07 10:37 pm (UTC)Normally mowing the lawn takes me about half an hour, this took about a hour and a half. And I did it really messily, I didn't have time before supper was ready, or energy, to tidy everything up like I normally would. But that's fine, it's so nice to have the job 90% done, finally.

What do you do with the grass clippings? We have an electric "mulching mower" which puts around half of it back soil; the other half goes to the compost box.
