I'm reading a book called Fat and Queer: An Anthology of Queer and Trans Bodies and Lives, which diffrentcolours bought at the queer bookstore the other week.

I'm really enjoying it but I can't read it too quickly, some of these little poems and essays are hitting hard! (It's not the most fun emotional catharsis I could have had today, but I definitely needed some after the last three days and this is what was available.) Mostly they make me want to write my own essay though.

Mine couldn't help but be about disability too. For all I love how intersectional it is in these two dimensions, and it's centering the experiences of people who aren't white, I haven't heard anything about disability yet which surprises me a little now that I'm halfway through the book.

That would surprise me too, if there is no representation of disability.

That is surprising, given how fatness and queerness are often treated as disabilities or things that require treatment on the same level as disability.

I also wonder what the definition(s) of fat are that are being used.

Interesting book but yes, disability is only mentioned in passing. One person listing it as a marginalised characteristic and a few passing references, but no one really discusses disability in any detail at all.

Honestly, I would actually be surprised if they did include someone talking about disability. We are so easily forgotten. :/
