Aww, I knew my parents had season tickets at the Marion Ross Theater before covid, but I never thought about it being named after a real person.

"I'm so impressed that the whole town wants to bother with me," Ross, 92, said... I'm not surprised, there's nothing to that town. It's named Albert Lea for a guy who just went through there, he's not even front there or lived there or anything.

"She moved to the Twin Cities later in her teens, then to California." Yep. That's the trajectory. Everyone does!

My mom is from Albert Lea and it's still the nearest place to where I grew up where you can buy groceries or go to a restaurant. It's such a nothing place but it's my nothing place; I too have fond memories of swimming in Fountain Lake as a kid, and definitely the place I miss most is my grandparents house there, where my grandma and aunt still live.

I didn't realize she was from Albert Lea. It's a drive through spot for us. Mom always stopped in Faribault or Owatonna on the way to Mason City and Sheffield, from "the city". I guess road tripping for 3 hours required a meal stop when we were kids.
