One thing I love about the coverage of Elliot Page's coming out is that it not only included that he uses both he/him and they/them pronouns but then the article I read used mostly he but also they pronouns.

His announcement was really warm and thoughtful too. I'm struck again, as I was by the last celebrity I saw coming out as trans, Kae Tempest, how eloquent people can be at times like this. And that's so lovely but I worry it's a little pre-emptive because people feel it needs to be. I feel like the bar's still pretty high for what's expected in this kind of situation, and I can't wait for when coming out can be more awkward or messy and still well-received. I can't wait until people don't have to be perfect and gracious even as they know they're making themselves a target of bigotry.

I was happy to see he/him, they/them used, too. It's the right thing to do, but too often, too many get it wrong.

Indeed. Or maybe even I can't wait until coming out doesn't make you a target of bigotry. I know that's probably too much to hope for, but I can't help it. I hope that as coming out as trans becomes more commonplace, trans identity becomes less maligned. I know it's much more complex than that, though.

His announcement reminds me firmly of a different coming out that he did earlier in in life before this one that also had the same kind of firmness and charm and finality to it, and done in service, if I recall correctly, of telling bigots to stop hurting people. So I hope that Elliot has the least terrible time at this, so that other people can believe that being trans doesn't always mean signing up for others to be transmisic at you.
