I got a haircut that wasn't just "shave all the hair off"!



I'd been wanting to go back to "shaved on the sides/back and longer on the top" for a few weeks now. Leaving the sideburns a little longer was diffrentcolours's own suggestion; he made sure I liked them before keeping them of course, but he may have biased my answer by saying he thought they looked cute. I think so too! He told me this is called "deathrock sideburns" (it is, you can google ait and see much more dramatic examples than I could be bothered to grow!) and told me that now when someone asks what my favorite bands are I have to say....oh I can't remember now, something about aliens and The Birthday Party and maybe one more. I said surely the whole point of distinctive haircuts is so you don't have to actually get asked things like that.

I felt so ridiculous for being driven crazy by my hair this last week ro two but when I saw how much hair there actually was on the floor when it was done, I felt more justified. My hair is so thick. This feels so good! Also it's almost long enough on the top I can try putting hair products in it again I think, which would be nice. The queerantine buzzcut has been fun but I feel more me with enough hair for it to stick up and have gel in it.

diffrentcolours took the picture too; I think he did a good job of that as well.

Agreed - this is a great haircut and a great photo! Good that you know you can go back to the same hairdresser any time you like for a refresh, too.

Haha, yes, when mother_bones asked if I warned to take my clippers home I thought no, actually, because the problem with me shaving my head is it needs re-doing every two or three weeks. He'll be a victim of his own success soon!

All the white people I know who think of themselves as having thick hair seem to have less thick hair than mine. :) It's a curse really, it's why I like it being so very short.

never heard of deathrock; my only association with sidelocks is queer jewish punks wearing payes, and i'm now intrigued by the overlap.

It's a sort of punk/goth thing as far as I can tell.

It's what they tried to rebrand trad goth bands about 15/20 years ago, I have a t-shirt from a (bad) goth band with the slogan "deathrock my arse, it was bad enough being called goth"--I shared a flat with them at a festival once, nice people but, well, the Sisters they weren't. With "goth" being a fairly broad thing to describe dark stuff from lots of genres, someone tried to use deathrock to describe sisters style bands. It hadn't taken off last I was hanging about in that sort of place but, well, maybe it has now?
