Apparently this is a thing. So in its honor, let's have a Gary update.

When I got home from work I went to change out of my sweaty clothes (it got hot on my walk back! It'd been chilly on my way to work; some days are hard to dress for). I sat on one end of the bed and Gary wriggled around behind me, on his back with his legs in the air. He looks so adorable while he's doing it, I can't help stopping what I'm doing to tell him he's a good boy.

I did that now but after I turned away to get back to what I was doing, I heard the distinctive crash that meant he'd drifted too close to the edge of the bed, caught up in his wriggles, and had fallen off. Right into the nightstand on Andrew's side of the bed.

By the time I stopped laughing and turned to check on him, he was back on the bed, sitting still this time and looking at one front paw with concern. But when he noticed me looking at him, he just held it up with what looked for all the world like a "kiss it better?" look on his face. I gave him lots of tummy rubs.

His paw was fine (I only laugh at these things because I know he's always fine really), and thankfully stayed that way even when Andrew took him for a walk soon after. When they came back, Andrew reported "His nemeses were there: small children who like ickle dogs!" (It's true. I've hardly ever seen Gary run as fast as when he bolted away from a toddler who was excitedly saying "doggy!") He went on: "One of them actually said 'He's so fluffy!' "

I approve of dogs who share my opinions of children.

(I'll admit it's been heartwarming to witness my cohort of people having children and truly nurturing them. It Is Possible.)
