I just got to boost (which is Mastodon for "retweet") the person who said k pop stans did more to disrupt the police than any elected politicians now sharing this link about how Minneapolis city council members have announced their intention to disband the Minneapolis Police Department.

Someone I follow on Mastodon is saying "I should have gone into municipal politics." Someone else replied "I mean, like, we all should have." It's a world gone topsy-turvy!

Certainly in voting and being informed, if not actually running for the offices themselves, we're all theoretically supposed to be in municipal politics.

Not that it actually happens that way, because of how life is structured.

Very welcome news, though, about the potential disbanding of the police in Minneapolis.

Yep, one of the good points I'm seeing this morning is that Minnesota is one of the easiest states to register and vote in, from college campus residency, to unhoused person voting, to no-reason absentee ballots, etc.

Voter enfranchisement has been such a big concern of mine, especially since 2016.

That's also good news. One hopes that there will be enough people to also keep an eye on any mass disenfranchisement attempts in addition to everything else going on right now.

Our police department terrifies me. Even though they've only been disdainful and disrespectful and disbelieving and dismissive to me and my family, that's only because we're all white. I can almost say for a fact that if we were people of color, one or more of us (me and my children) would have been brutalized by the police during a mental health crisis.

It's not too late! The lovely thing about municipal politics is that most of it is just showing up.
