5 Would you rather go to an amusement park, a zoo, or a sporting event?

I like them all (assuming it's a sport I like enough to go watch it, so probably cricket, baseball or rugby) so this just depends on mood.

Right now I'd love for it to be summer and me to be able to sit on some grass with friends and a picnic and watch village cricket.

I've got the scores for two of the three essays I was stressing about in recent weeks. I got 62 on the Swedish universities one, which is about normal/expected for me (reminder for any alarmed North Americans that this is pretty good here!) but I am pretty pleased that for that last essay, my white whale, the albatross around my neck, I got 75. This wasn't one of those times that I just underestimated myself and hard work pays off. Yes I worked hard but that hasn't always had a lot to do with what kind of grades I get. I feel fortunate as well as accomplished and both of those are valid.

Bloody hell, 75 is seriously impressive.

From what you report of your marks, you seem to be headed for a solid 2:1, maybe with a shot at a first if everything goes perfectly this semester. Is that about right?

If so, that's damned impressive for anyone, much less for a mature disabled student who is working during termtime.

I barely passed one class last year (and I was so upset about it I missed the deadline for getting feedback about it, so I don't know why, it was not expected!) and I've got an exam to take in August (since I couldn't in January) that I wasn't expecting to do well on anyway and which I heard from another student yesterday is so difficult no one is happy with how they did on it, so I'm not expecting great things there!

So yes I don't think there's any question of a first but yes if everything goes perfectly this year it's not mathematically impossible yet. :)

That's a pretty good position to be in. I dunno how Manchester works but when I was an undergrad in the 90s at Lancaster, they invited borderline students to do a viva and upgraded them if they did well enough so you might still have a shot at a first.

(I thought I'd been invited as a solid 2:1, did no revision and roleplayed til 11pm the night before so did not get upgraded... and was perfectly happy with my 2:1 until we got the breakdown of our marks and I discovered the only reason I didn't get a first was because I got 69 for my dissertation and the cut-off was 70...)

I don't know if there's anything like that here. Honestly I am fine with a 2:1, I never expected anything better because I just do not have the time or energy to devote to my degree that I think would make the difference between a 2:1 and a first. And I went back to uni with very clear "make myself more employable" goals that I don't think make my grades matter that much. If I could do a Masters it might be different, but even then I'd be perfectly happy with a 2:1. :)

A 2:1 is indeed perfectly respectable and will allow you to continue to a Masters (or indeed a PhD if you were mad enough ;)) if you decide you want to/ are in a position to do so.
