[214/365] Jane Dodds MP
Aug. 2nd, 2019 01:57 pmI went to bed about nine last night (I was so tired!) so I'd had a lot of sleep by 5am when I woke up.
The first thing I saw on Facebook was my friend Lisa-Maria sharing a photo of one of these orange diamonds, like the ones I helped put up over two of the last three weekends. This one had Jane Dodds' name on it and had a piece of paper added beneath that someone had written "MP" on. Because...
We won!
I'm so delighted to be one of the people who helped out, and proud of all my friends who donated their time and money to the by-election campaign. I'm grateful that Plaid and the Greens stood down to give the Lib Dems a better chance, and to Labour voters who voted for us even in a hold-your-nose-and-do-it way to get the Tory out. One person we put up a stakeboard for said she was a natural Labour voter but had never lived someplace where that vote would matter, and the Lib Dems share her frustration at the unrepresentative voting system we have now.
I'm glad to have been introduced to this lovely part of Wales (I want to go back for a vacation) and some nice people who live there. Most of all I'm glad they now have an MP who isn't a convicted criminal, who isn't a Brexiter, and who isn't adding to Boris Johnson's majority.
Which, now, is down to one. One! And I think that's something that we all, Lib Dem or not, can celebrate.
