My parents just travelled 4000 miles, at great (obscene really) cost, taking 15 hours or so to get here. They arrived in England's Second City — well, one of them at any rate — a place of rich history, culture, architecture, entertainment, nightlife, and many experiences unique to it or unique to Britain or at least unusual for a couple of midwestern farmers.
After being surprised that they didn't want to have a little nap first thing, I shrugged and said "Okay, what do you want to do?"
"Well, we thought, go downtown. To that mall."
My parents just travelled a long distance, at great expense. They're so excited, they've been talking about it for months. They arrive in a city of endless possibilities for exciting things to do, and they just want me to take them to the Arndale.
Thank god they don't know about the Trafford Centre.
